Our Scottish Book Fairies were delighted to be invited to the The Wee Free Trossachs Libraries event at the Aberfoyle Memorial Hall in Aberfoyle on Sunday 14th April 2019.
What are Wee Free Libraries?
The Wee Free Libraries project is a community book-sharing scheme, bringing books to readers and readers to books. Bookcases and shelves have been donated and placed in public spaces in and around The Trossachs, in central Scotland. Each little library is stocked with books sourced from charity shops and donated by the local community. The project aims to promote literacy, improve accessibility to reading and to nourish community spirit.
Where are they set up?
Wee Free Trossachs Libraries have been setup in The Lodge Visitor Centre, a Wee Free Children’s Library in Gartmore Village Hall and a Mini Library in the Co-op in Aberfoyle.
Our Official Book Fairy for Stirling (instagram here) and Fife (instagram) was able to attend the opening of a new library in Aberfoyle Memorial Hall. The little library will be there for 6 months initially, hopefully longer. The Book Fairies donated starter packs as pictured below!
Here’s what our Official had to say:
I had a great day representing Book Fairies at the Wee Free Libraries event. I took my Wee Book Fairies along, and they were invited to borrow a book from the children’s collection. We are planning to return to Aberfoyle in the Summer to return our books and to add some more. We hid some Book Fairy books in the new little library along with some Book Fairy starter packs, including Book Fairy stickers, ribbon and a handmade fairy keyring. It was lovely to meet the organiser, Roseann. I wish them all the very best with the project.
