The Book Fairies saw the tricky year of 2020 out with an extraordinary new novel – Last One at the Party by Bethany Clift!
The Book Fairies in the UK were thrilled to hide this dystopian thriller – about a pandemic – around our countries on New Year’s Eve 2020. We followed the journey of the protagonist on her lonely voyages around the UK in order to find great spots to hide this treasure!
“Dear Reader. This is a story about life, not death. Two years ago, verging on panic and imagining I might be the last person left on the earth, I took a deep breath… and instead of panic, I felt a heady rush of being alone and alive. This is how I want Last One At The Party to make you feel.”
Bethany Clift, author of debut novel Last One at the Party, out February 2021
About Last One at the Party:
It’s December 2023 and the world as we know it has ended.
The human race has been wiped out by a virus called 6DM (‘Six Days Maximum’ – the longest you’ve got before your body destroys itself).
But somehow, in London, one woman is still alive. A woman who has spent her whole life compromising what she wants, hiding how she feels and desperately trying to fit in. A woman who is entirely unprepared to face a future on her own.
Now, with only an abandoned golden retriever for company, she must travel through burning cities, avoiding rotting corpses and ravenous rats on a final journey to discover if she really is the last surviving person on earth.
And with no one else to live for, who will she become now that she’s completely alone?
The Book Fairies follow the plot around London!
“‘This will be the last news broadcast from the BBC, but we are going to leave the cameras running for as long as possible. All doors to Broadcasting House will be open…’”
– extract from Last One At The Party by Bethany Clift, out Feb 2021
The protagonist starts her story in an empty London, staying at the Langham Hotel, shopping (well, looting) at Harrods, singing to an empty auditorium at the Royal Albert Hall and keeping an eye on the front door of BBC Broadcasting House…
