Alex Michaelides’ novel The Maidens was brought to life as The Book Fairies followed the plot around Cambridge…
“They spent their first summer together in Cambridge …cocooned in each other’s arms”
The Book Fairies in Cambridge (insta here!) followed the plot of new hardback The Maidens by Alex Michaelides today! The city was looking beautiful and they managed to visit key locations in the story and bring the pictures to life with quotes. The books were snapped up SO quickly!
“Sebastian would punt, standing on the back of the boat and plunging the pole down into the riverbed to propel them along.”
Book fairies in Cambridge took a punting trip along the River Cam to get these beautiful pics of the book with the most beautiful views of the city! With wobbly legs, the book fairies emerged to leave some copies around the boat hire docks!
“He told me to meet him at the Folly, at midnight, for the ceremony….”
Something particularly grizzly happens at the Folly in The Maidens, and it was the first place these book fairies headed to along the plot of the novel! A little bit of Cambridge history: Hodson’s Folly is a summerhouse built in 1887 by John Hodson, butler at Pembroke College, in order to keep an eye on his daughter as she swam in the river. It is noted that the bathing places at Sheep’s Green and Coe Fen were on the upper river so that the bathers didn’t have to swim in the raw sewage from the city.

About the book:
Edward Fosca is a murderer. Of this Mariana is certain. But Fosca is untouchable. A handsome and charismatic Greek Tragedy professor at Cambridge University, Fosca is adored by staff and students alike—particularly by the members of a secret society of female students known as The Maidens.
Mariana Andros is a brilliant but troubled group therapist who becomes fixated on The Maidens when one member, a friend of Mariana’s niece Zoe, is found murdered in Cambridge.
Mariana, who was once herself a student at the university, quickly suspects that behind the idyllic beauty of the spires and turrets, and beneath the ancient traditions, lies something sinister. And she becomes convinced that, despite his alibi, Edward Fosca is guilty of the murder. But why would the professor target one of his students? And why does he keep returning to the rites of Persephone, the maiden, and her journey to the underworld?
When another body is found, Mariana’s obsession with proving Fosca’s guilt spirals out of control, threatening to destroy her credibility as well as her closest relationships. But Mariana is determined to stop this killer, even if it costs her everything—including her own life.
